Our Class Realistic Fiction Story!

In a previous post we told you about the planning stage of a realistic fiction story.  We have almost finished writing our story.  We have written an introductory paragraph and three even paragraphs.  While doing the shared writing we learned about all details and “show-not-tell”  That means that we describe the event/emotion/action instead of writing short sentences such as, “She was scared.”

WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Please read our story below and then reply with an ending of your own.  We’ll then analyze all of the suggested endings and choose the best one!

It was a marvellously sunny day in Danville.  Kendra was on her way to the biggest park in the neighbourhood. She was hoping that her friends would be there because she was tired of playing by herself.

Kendra skipped the whole way to the park.  when she got there she saw Joseph and Milla walking towards the park.  All three faces litup with giant smiles. Kendra and Milla asked, “Do you want to go on the slide?”  “No way!” Joseph replied.

Joseph crossed his arms and asked, “Do you want to play tag instead?” The girls looked at each other and answered, “No way hosea!” Joseph looked nervous and whispered, “I’m scared to go down the giant slide.”

So Kendra and Milla said, “We’ll go down first and show you that it’s not so scary.” The girls were laughing and smiling as they climbed the ladder.  Joseph was shaking inside and he could feel his heart beating as he watched the girls.  They waved to Joseph and flew down the slide as a train.

raz kids

We have been reading on raz kids for a while now and some people are done 1 levl, some have even done more levels. I really like raz kids because you can save up stars to buy stuff and read to achieve new goals that someone might have, like figering out new stupendous words like murmur and all sorts of words. That is why I like raz kids.

Maps!

Yesterday we were working on maps for Social Studies! But not an ordinary map. It was a map of a Camp named “Camp Alexander”. Some things we had to put on the map was a Flagpole,Firepit,Beach,Lodge and many more! This map was not so easy for me.Sometimes I didn’t know where to put things because we had to do certain things on the North side some things on the South side some things on the West side and somethings on the East side. Even though I didn’t get mine finished but it was  fun just reading about the camp!

The Writing Process At Work!

We have wrapped up our writing unit on Personal Narratives.  We learned many things during this unit, including what the writing process is and how to write effectively during each stage.  We will continue to develope these skills with our next unit of study: Realistic Fiction.  So far we have worked through 2 stages in a shared writing environment. We have created a box of ideas for stories, developed a fictional character, and planned a story including a problem, events, and a solution.

This reading group read this story and then practiced reading the story as Reader’s Theatre.  At the end of the week they perform the reader’s theatre for the class and did a fabulous job!  When reading they were thinking about the Fluency Reading Tools we have been working on.  They used expression, reading smoothly and at an appropriate pace.
