The Writing Process At Work!

We have wrapped up our writing unit on Personal Narratives.  We learned many things during this unit, including what the writing process is and how to write effectively during each stage.  We will continue to develope these skills with our next unit of study: Realistic Fiction.  So far we have worked through 2 stages in a shared writing environment. We have created a box of ideas for stories, developed a fictional character, and planned a story including a problem, events, and a solution.

He said, “no we cant stay here our self so you cant stay here because the trolls.” Finn said, “Im not afraid of  trolls.” So the woodcutter and his family went off. At  midnight finn was disturbed by the sound of voices. It was the trolls! The Trolls were too busy eating and they did not see finn. But they saw Bjorn. So they teased him. Bjorn scared the trolls away but in the cottage was a mess! So finn said Bjorn you can eat it all up. Finn was very happy!  A whole year went by! It was midwinter day and the woodcutter was out in the woods and feeling worried. After a troll and two more trolls said we saw your cat so we are not visting again! By Kiara and Nick!

This reading group read this story and then practiced reading the story as Reader’s Theatre.  At the end of the week they perform the reader’s theatre for the class and did a fabulous job!  When reading they were thinking about the Fluency Reading Tools we have been working on.  They used expression, reading smoothly and at an appropriate pace.
