Quote Of The Week – November 7

It doesn’t matter how slowly you go as long as you don’t stop! by Confucius

Today’s quote talks about never giving up.  You can connect this quote to the story about the Tortoise and the Hare.  Think about who won the race and why.

  1. Who do you know who reminds you of these characters?
  2. Which character do you think you are most like?  Explain.
  3. How can you apply this quote to your own life?

Quote Of The Week

Our Quote Of The Week for this week is:

“They can because they think they can.” said by Virgil

We talked about what this quote means.  It’s message is that as long as you try you can accomplish great things.  In order to be successful you must try and work hard towards your goal.  Positive thinking is important! If you want to succeed and you have the determination to work hard, anything is possible!

Do you agree with this quote?  Tell about a time when positive thinking helped you.

Quote of the Week – Patience

The quote to think about this week is:

“A moment of patience in a moment of anger can help us avoid a thousand moments of sorrow.” by Imam Ali

Patience is difficult for most of us.  We always seem to be in a rush and in a hurry to do what we need to do.  We are often quick to react to what people say and do.  How would our world be different if everyone stopped to think before acting?

Watch the video below and listen to the story about a taxicab driver and an elderly woman.

Students: Reply to this post with your thoughts about patience. When do you think it is important to be patient? Explain why.

A Moment of Patience

Each week our class begins our community circle talking about a quote.  This gives us a chance to read a different type of text, think about the messages in the text, discuss our thoughts and feelings, and try to connect the text to our own lives.

This week’s quote:

A moment of patience in a moment of anger can help us avoid a thousand moments of sorrow.

Students/Visitors:  Tell us about a time when you where angry and what you did about it.

We are angels

Our quote of the week is: “We are, each of us angels with only one wing; and we can only fly by embracing one another.” by Luciano de Crescenzo

We watched a video titled, “Wing”. You can watch it by clicking on the link below and then check out our voicethread comments.

Questions to Consider:

1. What did the video make you think about?

2. What do you think the message or theme of the video is?

3. What connections can you make to your own life? What questions do you have?

Quote of the Week- November 5

This week our quote to focus on is:

You always pass failure on the way to success! written by Andy Rooney

During our community circle today we discussed what this quote means to us. We decided that it means we will not be able to do something new perfectly the first time we try or even the second or third time. But if we keep trying we will succeed! We need to remember not to get discouraged when we make mistakes but rather learn from them in order to be more successful the next time.

Students/Visitors:  Tell us about something that you had to keep practising before you were successful.

Quote of the Week

Each week we post and discuss a “quote of the week”.  Sometimes the quotes make us laugh and sometimes not.  They always make us THINK!

This week our quote is:

A moment of patience in a moment of anger can help us avoid a thousand moments of sorrow.  by Imam Ali

In our class we have been working hard not to lash back when someone does something hurtful to us.  I thought this quote was appropriate to remind us of why we shouldn’t lash back.  In our community circle we talked about how hurting someone back doesn’t really solve the problem.

We would love to hear your thoughts and feelings about this!
