A New Pocket Chart In Our Room!

There is a new pocket chart in our classroom! Today we learned how to monitor our own progress in writing. We learned that there are 5 stages in the writing process and what each stage looks like. We learned how to use the chart to keep track of what stage we are working at. As we move through the stages during writer’s workshop we move our name.  This will help us to focus on a specific part of our writing and know exactly what we need to be doing to be successful writers!

Keeping Track Of Our Writing

Quote of the Week

Each week we post and discuss a “quote of the week”.  Sometimes the quotes make us laugh and sometimes not.  They always make us THINK!

This week our quote is:

A moment of patience in a moment of anger can help us avoid a thousand moments of sorrow.  by Imam Ali

In our class we have been working hard not to lash back when someone does something hurtful to us.  I thought this quote was appropriate to remind us of why we shouldn’t lash back.  In our community circle we talked about how hurting someone back doesn’t really solve the problem.

We would love to hear your thoughts and feelings about this!

Non-Verbal Communication

We are working with Mrs. Kaufman in the library to study media literacy. We are learning about different ways to communicate and discovered that communication falls into 2 categories: verbal and non-verbal.  Body language is an important part of communicating.

click on the link below to watch a video of a master mime and let us know what you think!  How do you use your body to communicate? Have you ever communicated something that you didn’t mean to?

Timelines

Today we learned about timelines.Timelines are a great way to tell a story! A timeline is basically a line  with phrases about that moment or that day.An example of a time line would be a straight line down or across a page.On one side would be a word like candy and the other side would tell about the candy like – delicious   – hard -soft things like that.Timelines also help the reader to understand what the timeline is about. I thought making a timeline was a little bit challinging but also easy

REVISING IS PERFECT

We do revising to help us fix stuff. We try to make our writing better. Also make new sentences. We can also re -read what we wrote .You can use a coloured pencil to corect our spelling and put our periods in the right place. When you read to someone you can fix mistakes that you did not  notice. Thats why you can use a coloured pencil. We revise by taking turns by reading  our writing together and when I read to Rachel she was a very good listener and I  was a good one too. Me and hailey really like revising beacase we got a chance to read our reading together  and we like revising because it will make a perfect story when you are done your bad copy. Thats why its good to use every other line. So you can re -w rite it .THE END

Crazy For Comics!

Our class is crazy for comics.  We have been learning about different types of media and have found that comic strips are one of them!  We have discovered that it is difficult to get our message across using a comic strip.  Our first assignment was to show a scene in which the characters show inclusiveness.  Some have been posted in the public class gallery.  You can view them by visiting the following link:
