Bump – A Math Game

Today the students learned how to play “Bump”.  We played a big carpet version using our big carboard blocks, but you could easily make a tabletop game using smaller cubes or lego pieces.

Rules:  Each player starts out with 10 blocks of the same colour.

  • Player one rolls a die and places one of his/her blocks on that number.
  • Player two rolls the die and places one of his/her blocks on that number.
  • If a player rolls a number that has his/her opponent’s block on it they can “bump” it off and place their own on the number
  • If a player rolls a number that they already have a block on they can stack another on top.  This locks that number and prevents their opponent from “bumping”.
  • the first player to place all 10 blocks on the board is the winner.
