Today we started off our new writing unit with some drawing! That’s right, we drew a picture, or at least we tried to! The students listened to my instructions and tried to copy a picture that I had already drawn. Although everyone followed the instructions none of the pictures looked like mine. We discovered that I was missing some very important details in my procedure. Next we looked at several different procedural pieces of writing and discussed the purposes and characteristics of procedural writing. I think the students will do a much better job at giving instructions next week than I did this time!
