Probability: Take Off

For the past week we have been talking about probability in math.  We’ve conducted a few experiments and played some games. Now it’s time to show me what you know!

Let’s review the game that we played: Take Off

  1.  You placed 12 counters on a game card. You could place as many counters in each column as you wanted and even leave some columns empty.
  2. Then you took turns rolling a die. You removed a counter if it was in a number column that matches the number shown on the die.
  3. The first player who removed all his or her counters won the game.

Look at the game cards below.

  1.  Which player do you think will win the game?  Justify your answer! Remember to use probability vocabulary.
  2. How would you place the counters?  What strategies would you use to help you win the game?
