Where in the world is Argentina?

A class from Argentina has reached out to us and would like to connect with us through Global ReadAloud!  I am so excited about this opportunity!! Do any of you know where Argentina is?

This is a map of Argentina.  Now use Google Maps to find out where in the world Argentina is.  Which continent is Argentina part of? How far is Argentina from Canada? What interesting facts can you find out about Argentina?

Quote of the Week – Patience

The quote to think about this week is:

“A moment of patience in a moment of anger can help us avoid a thousand moments of sorrow.” by Imam Ali

Patience is difficult for most of us.  We always seem to be in a rush and in a hurry to do what we need to do.  We are often quick to react to what people say and do.  How would our world be different if everyone stopped to think before acting?

Watch the video below and listen to the story about a taxicab driver and an elderly woman.

Students: Reply to this post with your thoughts about patience. When do you think it is important to be patient? Explain why.

Estimate How Many

Our Big Idea today was about Quantity! We used a lot of math skills today!  First we reviewed what estimation is. Then we came up with our own estimations and talked about estimation strategies. It was a challenge to articulate our strategies in a way that everyone could understand our thinking!

Next came the counting.  We worked as a group to count the items in our bin. Mrs. Hackett said, “I was impressed with the collaboration that I saw!”

Finally, we used a shared Google Slide to talk about our math and present our thinking to the rest of the class.

Land Use in Rural and Urban Areas

We have looked at maps and created maps to show where in the world Wyevale is.  We’ve also discovered where some new friends are in other parts of North America.  Now it’s time to look at what we do in those places.

1.  Use the Padlet below to record your ideas about what we need to live in a community. Write as many ideas as you can!

N

Now, look at each picture slide in the Google Slide below. For each picture list as many words and phrases as you can to describe the pictures. Think about the features of the buildings, what the buildings are used for, why those buildings exist, and where you might find those buildings. Are there any other ways the land has been used other than for buildings?

Work with your partner and fill your recording sheet.

Autumn Birch Tree Landscapes

We have used the creative process to create some fabulous paintings!  You all did well following directions and using WILF to complete your paintings with success!20151005-082620.jpg

Now let’s think about our paintings!

Students:  Look at the three paintings below.  Each student followed the same directions but each painting has a different look and makes us (the viewers) think about and feel different things.  Reply to this post with your ideas about what each painting makes you think about and feel.

Visitors:  Please reply with your comments as well!  We are always interested in opinions and feedback from those of you outside of our classroom door!
