Today we talked about rounding numbers. Students first looked at the picture without knowing how many balloons there were and made their guesses. The best part about this was when students talked about their strategies. They shared how they thought about their guesses. It was a challenge to explain their thinking!
Then the actual number of balloons was revealed and students talked about which “about” phrase was the best and used number lines to explain their thinking. We agreed that all of them could be true as we learned about rounding numbers to the nearest ten.
Tomorrow we’ll talk about 3-digit numbers and rounding to the nearest 100.
Thanks to Marion Small, we have our “Eyes On Math”!
